The phosphite cpds. is formula (I) or (II). In the formulae, R1 is of formula (II) X is = CH- or of formula (III),, (IV) or (V); R6 is lower alkyl or -CH2OH; R2+5 are alkyl(aryl), aryl(alkyl), cellusolve, carbitol, polyhydric alcohol or polyhydric phenol, all opt. substd., or H or as R1; R1 and R2 and R3 and R4 may be joined to form the gp. R1 where X is (II) and R6 is a divalent gp. -CH2-, R is H or -P(OR3)-OR4; A is polyhydric alcohol or polyhydric phenol; B is =C=, =C(R7)-CH2-O-CH2-C(R7)=, or of formula (VI) or (VII); R7 is (m)ethyl; Y is H or O; m = 0-4; n = 0-20; and when n = 0, >=1 of R2 and R3 is polyhydric alcohol or phenol.
