Abstract

The packing machine has a wrapping mechanism which moves the two ends of a strip of synthetic resin sheet (3), by means of a series of grips (30) on a pair of endless chains (23), down onto a packet (1) so as to form a barrel-shaped cover. A stretching mechanism (40) grips part of the strip ends between a pair of belts (41) on the underside, while the sides of the packet covered by the strip are gripped between a further pair of flat belts, and the strip ends are simultaneously welded together by a pair of heating rollers (48). Parting rotors cut the sheet between packets. The packets then travel through a housing with vacuum intakes pulling down the sheet end protruding from the rear end of the packet against the surface of the latter and onto the surface of the housing where it is gripped by a bar.
