Abstract

Continuous band, esp. of paper and board, but also of synthetic film or metal foil are coated with lacquers hardened by ultraviolet radiation, by applying the lacquer to the outer surface of a quartz drum and/or the surface of the band to be coated. After the application, the band is pressed against the surface of the drum. The hardening of the lacquer is effected by means of the radiation through the wall of the quartz drum, and the band is then withdrawn. Pref. the outer surface of the quartz drum has a coating which rejects hardened lacquer. The surface to be coated is pressed against the surface of the drum. The radiation is effected by lamps installed inside the drum, and is directed to the zones of the drum surface on which the band to be lacquered lies. Arrangement ensures a smooth surfaced product without the uneconomic scrapping of transparent separating films after they have been used for a few times.
