Abstract
Aromatic polyester-sulphone (A), contains repeat units having formula -E-O-E'-O-, or, when E = E', -E-O- (where E is a gp. theoretically obtainable by removing the halogen atoms of a dihalobenzene deriv., in which each halogen atom is activated by an SO2- gp. in the o- or p-position. E' is a gp. theoretically obtainable by removing the OH gps. of a bisphenol). E and E' may differ and may change from unit to unit in polymer chain. At least 8 (>=25)% of (A) end-gps. consist of or contain MeSOCH2-(dimsyl) gps., present esp. as p-MeSO2CH2-C6h4-so2 gps. A pref. coating compsn. contains a fluorocarbon polymer, (B), dispersed in a soln. or dispersion of (A). The solid surfaces coated are pref. dried and heated at 300-450 degrees C. (A) is used in coating compsns. and acts as adhesive. (A) also allows adhesion of coated surfaces with another surface in laminate prodn. Coatings contg. (A) and (B) have reduced friction and non-stick properties and are used esp. in cooking utensils, oven coatings, in industrial plant, e.g. autoclaves, rollers, heat sealing jaws, in domestic articles, tools, in electrical field, e.g., for wire insulation, and in coating glass fibres.
