Abstract

The surgical prosthesis replaces a hip joint and is made from aluminium. The acetabular cap has a smooth concave surface (1) and a ribbed convex outer surface (2). This has three dowels (6, 7) around its periphery, spaced at 85 deg. and having key grooves (19-21) over a portion of their surfaces. These grooves run perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and decrease in length from top to bottom. A central dowel is also fitted, this having key grooves completely around its circumference. Three straight grooves (8) also radiate from this centre dowel, each groove running over the outer convex surface to bisect the angles between the peripheral dowels.
