Abstract

An inertia switch is used for changing the connections of one or several electric circuits in the event of impact, vibrations, acceleration, or rapid change of direction. It consists of a box (1) with conical seating (2) on which is held an inertia block (3), acted upon by a spring (4). On impact, etc. in a plane perpendicular to its axis, the inertia block leaves the centre of its seating, and frees the bar (7). The bar, rotating about its axis, and freeing itself from the stop-notch (9), under the action of the spring (12), slides to the left. This movement causes the metallic, elastic laminae (10) to slide over the contact studs (11), thus breaking some electric circuits and reestablishing others. The relay can be reset by pushing in the reactivation button (13).
