Abstract

The stator structure for an electrical machine, such as a large generator, includes bars forming a winding secured in slots by a system of wedges. The stator (1) has a core (2) built up from stacks of laminations (3) formed to provide winding slots in the known manner. Winding bars (6) are disposed in the slots, the bars are each surrounded by a layer of insulation and are held in the slots by an assembly of outer and inner wedges (8, 9, 11). The outermost wedges are provided with side projections of prismatic form which fit into grooves in the slot walls to lock the wedges in position. The end wedges have transverse slots formed in their outermost portions (12) with securing bands (14) engaging the slots.
