Abstract

The process for bending malleable sheet-metal produces two tapered tubes (30) simultaneously and may be used to form hollow metal masts for yachts. The tubes are formed side by side by pressing a circular hollow section flange (16) onto a dumb-bell section mandrel (18', 18"). At the completion of the pressing operation the two tubes (30) are joined by a diametric double-walled diaphragm which is then cut away. The hollow circular flange may be derived by bending a rectangular sheet, and the temporary diaphragm may increase in width from the foot to the head of the tubes. The process entails placing the mandrel (18) in the preformed flange (16) and then pressing it between two vertically opposed matrices (19, 20).
