Abstract

Part of each reactor extends into a combustion chamber of a furnace. Baffles or shields are arranged around these parts of the tubular reactors to protect them from excessive radiant heat from the wall of the combustion chamber and to more evenly distribute the heat among and around all of the reactors. The invention is particularly useful for an installation for the steam reforming of hydrocarbons to produce hydrogen.
