Abstract
L'invention concerne un procédé pour obtenir un métal par réduction d'un chlorure. Selon l'invention, on dispose d'un élément de chauffage à arc ayant au moins une paire d'électrodes tubulaires coaxiales et separées, formant une chambre d'arc reliée à une chambre de réaction. L'arc amorcé entre les électrodes est soufflé par un courant de gaz dans la chambre à arc. On introduit dans ce courant chauffé par l'arc, un métal alcalin ou alcalino-terreux et un chlorure. Les produits de réaction sont projetés tangentiellement dans la chambre de réaction, si bien que le sel gazeux plus léger s'échappe et le métal élémentaire liquide s'écoule vers le bas. Application à la production de titane et de zirconium.The invention relates to a process for obtaining a metal by reduction of a chloride. According to the invention, there is an arc heating element having at least one pair of coaxial and separate tubular electrodes, forming an arc chamber connected to a reaction chamber. The arc initiated between the electrodes is blown by a current of gas in the arc chamber. An alkali or alkaline earth metal and a chloride are introduced into this current heated by the arc. The reaction products are sprayed tangentially into the reaction chamber so that the lighter salt gas escapes and the liquid elemental metal flows downward.
