Abstract
A food heating vessel comprises a sintered body of 4-40 wt. % ferrite component, MFeO4, M = bivalent Mn, Mg, Zn, Fe, Ni or Cu, and 96-60 wt.% mineral component Li2O.Al2O3.nSiO2, n = 4 or 8, and opt. =10 wt.% clay. The vessel is mfd. by firing a moulding contg. the mixt. at 1050-1300 degrees C for 1-3 hr. The vessel can be cheaply made using natural minerals e.g. spodumene or petalite. Vessels have thermal conductivity of 1.5-6x10-5 cal/cm. degrees C.s., specific heat about 0.25 cal/g degrees C., temp. difference of spalling of 300-450 degrees C and a porosity 10%.
