Abstract

The process includes the prodn. of a gas with a high H2 content; the conversion of most of the oxides of C into carbonic anhydrides; the decarbonation of the carbonic anhydrides and the washing out of residual oxides of carbon with liq. nitrogen. The washing process is done in two columns, both of which have three outlets for the removal of separate fractions with high proportions of different gases. The appts. ensures the removal of Ar without notable loss of CH4 or CO monoxide-giving a yield of about 98% for methane and 97% for carbon monoxide. These results are achieved without extra investment or subsidiary compressors.
