Abstract

The equipment continuously cleans and disinfects the moving hand-rails of mechanical escalators. It comprises a housing with a pad inside shaped to fit against the hand-rail. The pad is impregnated with a cleaning and disinfecting agent and bears continuously against the moving hand-rail portion on which users place their hands. There may be a second dry pad bearing against the hand-rail after the first one, so as to wipe it dry before being touched again by users hands on stepping onto the escalator.
