Abstract

The time delay fuse fits between two detonator fuses, and incorporates a movable arming device actuated automatically on detonation on the input side. The device may include a piston (3) carrying a secondary explosive charge, moved by the thrust of gases resulting from combustion of a rapid-burning auxiliary firing charge. This moves the piston from a position between a primary explosive charge and the delayed output side and an armed position where the secondary charge is between them. There may be a body with openings for the input and output fuses, and a main passage through it contain a time lag ignition material, a primary explosive and if necessary an intermediate reinforcing relay. The piston slides in a blind hole between the main passage and the output opening. An auxiliary passage, containing a rapid-burning auxiliary charge, opens into the hole behind the piston, while its other end is connected to the input opening.
