Abstract

The rotor-locking prevention circuit is fitted to a machine driven by an electric motor e.g. a paper pulveriser. It has an overcurrent detector triggering a supply disconnector. The detector has a constant response time normally of the order of tenths of a second but only comes into operation some tens of seconds after the motor has started. The control circuitry that operates the disconnector also controls commutation of the motor such that the direction of rotation of the motor is momentarily reversed for a time sufficient to 'unlock' the rotor.
