Abstract

In a well logging and recording system, the electrical log signals are converted to digital signals and passed to a date processing plant. A programmer contains in its memory all instructions for the direction of a recording operation and causes the recorder to register the corresponding quantity of the parameter concerned. The main components of the new system are the relay unit which joins the well tool to a digital control unit with a tape feed mechanism and a control console. A mini-computer, which includes a memory, a direct-memory-access bus, a central register, and an input/output bus, is linked to several intersection units. This provides a higher-quality record for well logging than analog methods. The operation of the system is less complex and it has a better long-term stability than analog systems. The calibration accuracy has also been raised.
