Abstract

A moulded solid object, partic. a contact lens, is made of SIN (simultaneous inter penetration networks) polymer formed from a cross-linked hydrophilic polymer (derived e.g. from 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, or 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate), and a cross-linked hydrophobic polymer. The cross-linked hydrophobic polymer is prepd. from >=1 poly(organosiloxanes) prepolymer which can be cross-linked simultaneously with the polymerisation and cross-linking of the hydrophilic fraction, and independently of it. The poly(organosiloxanes) contain functional radicals, e.g. vinyl, hydroxy, hydrogen radicals, which are the cross-linking centres.
