Abstract

The air draught from a drawing print machine contg. ammoniacal vapours is passed by a duct into a column. Inside the column are one or more beds of Raschig rings arranged on perforated trays that cover the dia. of the column. A phosphoric acid soln. is distributed in fine droplets over the beds from sprayers positioned above the beds. The sprayer is an assembly of rotative jets. At the top of the column are anti-droplet trays with perforations that each have a cap the same shape as the perforation fitted a few cms. above it. The use of phosphoric acid solution enables large volumes of air containing ammonia to be neutralised before the solution is spent. Soln. is relatively safe to handle, has no fire risk and reaction prods. are odourless and do not form ppts to harm the machine.
