Abstract
A generator provides an AC output and the mechanism provides a sparkless pick-off at the brushes from the armature. The generator has four fixed and two rotating brushes set symmetrically around the armature which has two prism shaped poles and four further poles which are very approximately 'hammer head' shaped. The carcass of the generator consists of a stack of clamped laminations and has two planes of symmetry with reference to the armature axis of rotation. The generator has two active and four compensating coil windings, the former being wound on the two prismatic poles and the latter around the remaining poles.
