Abstract

The Zn is extracted by electrolysis of the Zn in the alkaline or acid solns. obtd. The ashes are treated and the fraction relatively poor in Zn is dissolved, the fraction rich in Zn is reintroduced directly into the galvanising bath pref. after first leaching. The mattes are treated to dissolve them by setting up either a corrosion cell or establishing with the aid of these mattes the anodes of an electrolytic circuit. The ashes often contain 15 wt.% and sometimes =20 wt.% of the Zn consumed and it is useful ot recover this. Equally the mattes contain 12 wt.% and sometimes =10 wt.% of the Zn consumed. The mattes can be treated directly. Purification of the electrolyte, before electrolysis is reduced since an NH3/NH4Cl based electrolyte is used.
