Abstract

The machine for producing lines of weakness in the form of furrows impressed into metal sheets, particularly those intended for lids for conserve cams. A bedplate (2) is fixed to a machine table, a lid (1) being held onto the bedplate by a clamping plate (3) under spring action. A ravel wheel (6) turns freely about an axis (7) fixed to the tool holder (5) fixed to the spindle of the machine. The wheel, made from heat treated steel has a dia. of about 20mm and a tip thickness of about 0.15 mm and is rotated at about 5000 rpm. The advance of the machine spindle is controlled by a micrometer stop (10) the rate being about 0.05 mm per turn and the pressure exerted on the wheel is about 500 newtons.
