Abstract

A fluid levelling detector comprises a reservoir (1) with a set fluid level (8). The reservoir communicates with a hand held inverted "U" shaped tube (9a, 9b) by a flexible pipe (14) entering a pistol grip valve assembly (13). It may be used for checking steering alignment in the underside of a vehicle. The reservoir is fixed relative to a reference position. A reference abutment on the hand held unit is placed against the surface to be levelled and valve (19) is activated permitting atmospheric pressure to be applied above the fluid column in the arm (9a) of the tube. An illuminated scale (25) enables levelling to be performed with increased accuracy.
