Abstract

The pedestrian guard rail has panels (4) fabricated from relatively slender sheet material and obtains rigidity from a ballast filling. The panels are open at the top, increase in width from top to bottom, and are mounted on a vertical base fixed post (2) and handrail (3) frame. Natural or synthetic material (5) is used as ballast with a top layer (6) of earth. Alternative transverse panel sections include: a variously inclined 'V' section i.e. with one leg (7) vertical, with equal leg inclinations, or with unequal leg inclinations A 'V' section with one leg curved, and a trough section with lightly divergent inclined sides and increasing in width via a series of symmetrical horizontal steps may also be used.
