Abstract
The system for controlling a road vehicle prevents driver drowsiness. The normal compression type vehicle accelerator is replaced by one worked in tension from the driver's foot. Removal of the foot force causes a return to the off position. Should the driver become drowsy, the system is more likely to return to the off position than with the normal system. It also requires frequent changes of body position by the driver. The pedal used can also be employed to actuate the brake, avoiding the need to transfer the foot to another pedal.
