Abstract

The silenced gas spray is intended mainly for medical purposes in which refrigerated fluid is to be sprayed into the ear of a patient for a caloric examination. The spray consists of a standard aerosol bottle, using freon propellant, with a release valve at the top. A calibrated orifice controls the release of gas into the annular injection tube and the silencing tube. The silencing tube is a large diameter supply tube, filled with a foam material such as polytetrafluoroethylene, which permits the laminar flow of gas and deadens the noise. Each end of the supple tube is fitted with rigid sections of tube which permit the fixing of the injection tube and the aerosol.
