Abstract

Endo-antigenic extracts of Staphylococcus aureus are prepd. by following process (a) S. aureus is cultured in a medium contg. peptone, NaCl, yeast extract and glucose (b) the culture medium is centrifuged to give the bacterial deposit (c) this deposit is resuspended in a glycine soln contg. polyvinyl pyrrolidone and kept at 37 degrees C until lysis is complete (d) the lysate is centrifuged and the supernatant layer recovered (e) this layer is treated with sodium mercurothiolate to detoxify the endo-antigens. Used as reagents for serological research. They detect the presence of flocculating and precipitating antistaphylococcal antibodies in human or animal serum.
