Abstract
The mechanism is built into a tank filler pipe, and automatically prevents overfilling, being particular for an underground tank. It has a housing (1) screwed to the filler pipe, with a cylinder closed by a top cover and with openings (17) at the bottom, there being a space between it (3) and the housing. The rod (8) of a piston (4) working in the cylinder is coupled to a float (12) outside the housing. As the tank is filled, the openings are shut off by the piston moving downwards, causing a pressure to build up in stages in the passage (20) for the fluid between cylinder and housing. A double valve (16) is fitted in the housing wall above the cylinder, its inner valve (21) connected with the passage, acts as a drain valve. The outer valve (22) is actuated by the float, and acts as a stop valve.
