Abstract

A measuring instrument is used to measure the front wheel caster and camber angles of a road vehicle. The instrument comprises a case (1) containing a pendulum pivoted about a horizontal axes and in a plane parallel to the wheel plane. It also has a variable resistor potentiometer which gives a signal proportional to the relative position of the pendulum with the bracket (2) attached to the wheel (R). The instrument is connected to a display. By raising the wheel (R) off the ground, rotating the wheel and taking maximum reading and a reading for the wheel at 90 [deg.] to the position at maximum reading, the wobble of the wheel can be determined. Any wobble measured can be compensated by a potentiometer (13). Other angles of the wheel (R) can then be measured.
