Abstract

A woven fabric which can be stretched along two axes at right angles to each other, is produced from weft, at least one thread of which is inextensible, and warp threads which are extensible. The fabric is in a gauze construction with inverted binding. Whilst at least one thread of the weft is unstretchable, a number of warp threads are extensible. These elastic threads may have a core of an elastomer, and the elastomer core may be sheathed in a winding thread or threads. The inextensible thread may be of cotton or of a synthetic such as a polyester. When removed from the loom, the fabric retracts to two-thirds of its loom size, whilst after boiling it is reduced to only fifty percent of its loom size and has a coefficient of elasticity of practically 100%. The fabric obtd. is shaped in three-dimensional moulds to form the foundation garment sections.
