Abstract

Support, esp. for vertical and/or horizontal rows of steel wires, using a profiled bar with a polygonal cross-section including >=2 walls, each fitted with a matching row of holes contg. shoulders which co-operate with ratchet teeth mounted on a wire tensioning shaft of known type, the shaft being located in one pair of holes. The pref. support has a U-shaped cross-section; and a row of matching holes is provided in each leg of the "U". Each hole has a larger dia. than a circle which encloses the teeth on the shafts; and the shafts can be designed for clockwise or anticlockwise rotation for applying tension to the steel wires. Used esp. in vineyards for supporting the shoots or tendrils of the plants to ensure their growth; but the device can also be used for fencing wire, clothes lines etc. Tension can be applied simply to a row of wires.
