Abstract

4-0- 2',3',4',6'-tetradezoxy-2',6'-diamino-alpha, D-erythrohexopyranosyl -6-0- 3",4",6" trideozy-3"'-methylamino-alpha, D-xylohexopyranosyl) - 2,5-didesoxy streptamine (I) and its salts are new. (I) is an antibiotic, active against Gram positive and negative bacteria, esp. penicillin - resistant staphylococci and coliform bacteria. A oref. salt of (I) is the sulphate. In an example 1 g (I) was dissolved in 100 ml water and sufficient normal sulphuric acid to give a neutral pH, 10.3 ml. The soln. was concentrated to 20 ml, filtered, and concentrated to 2-3 ml. 60 ml methanol was added to give 1.45 g (I) sulphate as white crystals alpha D=100 .5 degrees plus-or-minus 3 degrees (c = 0.5%, water).
