Abstract
p-Chlorophenoxyisobutyryl-glycinamide, of formula (I), is a new cpd. Cpd. (I) promotes lipid metabolism. It gives greater reductions in serum cholestrol levels, is slightly less toxic and is more rapidly absorbed than ethyl p-chlorophenoxyisobutyrate (II). Unlike (II), it is tasteless and odourless and can be administered in solid form. Cpd. (I) can be prepd. by reacting a glycine deriv. of formula R1NHCH2COR2 (where R1 is H or a reactive gp.; R2 is NH2 or lower alkyl) with p-chlorophenoxyisobutyric acid (III) or a reactive deriv. of (III). When R2 = alkyl, the product is reacted with NH3.
