Abstract

Appts. for the treatment of skins comprises a parallelepipedal drum which can be rotated around a horizontal axis passing through two of its opposite corners. The drum is made from wooden staves connected by metal strips. It is supported by pedestals carrying bearings and is driven by an electric motor. A sliding door covers an opening for entering and removing the skins while a valve serves for evacuating treating liqs. A double bottom, provided with openings, allows liqs. to pass but prevents the valve from becoming blocked by the skins. As the drum rotates, the skins fall into the bath of liq.; at each half-turn they fall in the opposite direction thus preventing them from becoming entangled. Appts. is suitable for cleaning and softening skins, by re-hydrating the fibres, for loosening the hairs of the epidermis or for tanning. As the skins fall in opposite directions as the drum rotates, there is no risk of the skins clinging together and preventing penetration of the treating liqs.
