Abstract

Fire-proofing agent for polymer materials, esp. halogenated polymers, e.g. PVC, consists of a complex Mg/Zn salt obtained by reacting (1) 2-10 moles magnesium oxide with (2) 1 mole zinc salt of an acid. Good fire-proofing action may be obtd. in a wide range of polymers. The agent prevents formation of smoke when the polymer is exposed to a flame and does not harm the physical props. of the polymer, esp. its thermal stability.
