Abstract

A device for changing the charge in a reservoir filled with particles of solid matter and a liquid, esp. a glass reservoir contg. an ion-exchanging resin for separating plutonium from a soln. of nitric acid, has an annular channel surrounding the vessel outlet. Between the channel and the interior of the vessel there is a fine gauze screen and the flushing out liquid is fed into this screened channel. There is a closed flushing-out circuit between the transfer bottle for the spent charge and the reservoir, and a filter is positioned between the interior of the bottle and the feed to the reservoir. Charge of ion-exchanging material can be changed without using high pressure for the washing-out liquid. Glass vessels can thus be used and the behavior of the charge observed.
