Abstract

Machine in which a tool, esp. an oxy-cutting burner, is driven along rectangular coordinates (x,y) by a scanner which reads a flat drawing or template. The burner is driven along a traverse to achieve movement in the (x) direction; and the traverse is driven along rails in the (y) direction. Two speed multiplaction devices are used between the scanner and the burner, so the (x,y) movements of the latter are a multiple of the scanner movements. Pulleys and gear mechanisms are pref. employed to obtain the required speed ratios, and while the workpiece rests on a horizontal table, the drawing or template may be mounted on either a horizontal or a vertical table; a counterweight may also be used to control the movement of the scanner. A simpler flame cutting machine is obtd. in which, e.g. both the (x) and (y) motion of the burner is twice that of the scanner, i.e. a multiplaction factor of 2.
