Abstract

The bomb designed to explode on impact has a delay device (12) for aiming the fuse (10) after release of the bomb from an aircraft, a priming device (14) of inertia type and a pyrotechnic chain (16) to cause the primer to ignite the explosive charge (126). The delay system has a striker (20) with a spring (22) around it, retained by a ball (24). This fires a cartridge (32) when released. This is held in a block (44) with channels holding two explosive charges (34) to operate another cartridge (36) which operates a piston (40) down the middle, to move a spindle (18) which releases the primer (14). This action severs one or more shear pins. The block (44) is also released by a screw (60) and nut (48) drive operated by vanes (46) mounted on the end of the casing. The ball (24) is released to initiate the whole system when a ring (64) at the top is pulled. Finally, the primer (14) has a percussion device (74) to ignite another primer (80) on impact.
