Abstract

Synthetic floor covering for sports grounds consits of (a) a base layer of lightweight concrete, (b) a flexible buffer layer of polystyrene material, (c) an impact-distributing layer of lightweight cement concrete, (d) a plastic layer and (e) a top layer of synthetic fibres. The covering (e) may be e.g. of a needled nylon textile material or a synthetic velour fabric. The concrete base layer is cast e.g. from a mixt. of 250 1. expanded clay or other lightweight additive with a particle size of 2-10 mm and a density of 1; 250 1. silica sand 0/12 and 100 kg. cement. The impact-distributing layer is about 4 cm. thick and is comprised e.g. of a mixt. of 250 1. expanded clay, 120 1. sand 0/6, 100 kg. cement and 12 1. synthetic resin additive. The flooring can be used for pitches for football, handball, volleyball, tennis, running, athletic, etc., and have the required degree of hardness and resistance to spiked sports shoes while reducing the risck of accidents, muscle sprains and breakage of limbs.
