Abstract

Jointing an additional plastic sheathed cable into an existing joint or termination having an enclosure which can be opened up and resealed, is done with the aid of a mould which consists of a split housing with sleeve portion for sealing temporarily tothe sheath of the additional cable, and larger dia. flat flange to abut sealingly an end wall of the existing enclosure. A hole is made in this end wall for entry of the additional cable. The mould has inlet and outlet ports. Molten thermoplastic jointing matl. is flowed through the mould until the sheath and end wall are softened to bonding temp. and the joint is then allowed to cool. Used e.g., for telephone cables in local networks.
