Abstract
An appts. for testing materials, in which test bars are subjected to mechanical strain and to the action of a corrosive, incorporates three holders. One holds an end of the test bar under tension, the second holds an end under bending, and the third holds the other end and transmits a strain from a spring through a lever to the bar. A support in the form of a pillar on a base, with an arm projecting at the top, carries the first holder is located at the middle of the pillar and the third is situated near the base. The appts. can incorporate a chamber surrounding the test-piece, and titted with pipes by which a corrosive material can be circulated, while the test piece is under tensile or bending strain. The appts. is lighter and occupies less space than existing appts. It allows test under tension and under bending, with or without the presence of a corrosive medium, to be carried out with a single strain source.
