Abstract

The extruded plastics drinking straw is for use with prefabricated close plastics cartons contg. a predetermined quantity of a beverage, and has a non-circular external cross-sectional profile. The straw is used to gain entry into the carton by removing a stamped inlet area from the carton top. The stamped area has a partially ruptured periphery and is pushed into the carton, so that the straw is inserted. The contours of the straw wall permit air to pass between the straw and the edges of the carton inlet during drinking. The straw may have longitudinal linear or spiral channel formations, in the external wall, may alternatively have a longitudinal rib or a local flat, or may be of oval section.
