Abstract

The alarm and surveillance system uses detectors (4) which are sensitive to a change from a determined state. The system also uses existing conductors (L) as a signal transmission channel. A known frequency signal is generated at each detector (4) in the event of state modification. The signal being identical for each detector. These signals are injected into existing conductors. The signals are received at a single remote unit (5). An alarm is triggered when the signals are received. A continuous signal is transmitted on to the line (L) from the remote unit (5). This signal has a frequency which is different from the detector (4) signal frequency. Each detector receives the signal from the remote unit and stores the signal energy. When state modification is detected, the stored energy is used to trigger signals onto the line.
