Abstract
The gyroscope can be run-up by an unwinding tape (4) or by gas or by a pyrotechnic device. Its spinning wheel (1) is a two-gimball assembly (3, 8) and in a case (40). The spinning wheel (1) is supported by two rolling bearings mounted on a shaft (2) which is itself mounted on two other rolling bearings mounted in the first and inner gimbal (3). The inner gimbal (3) is mounted on two rolling bearings (6, 7) located in the outer gimbal (8) which in turn is mounted on two other rolling bearings (36, 37). During run-up of the spinning wheel (1), the force exerted by the tape (4) compresses two rubber rings (26, 27) and a coil spring (46). The gimbals (3) (8) are then locked and cannot be angularly displaced. On removal of the tape (4) and any acceleration forces in flight, the gimbals (3, 8) are free.
