Abstract
The method of cutting holes in ceramic tiles deploys a laser beam. A beam constituting impulses of laser light is directed at the workpiece (1). Each impulse produces a small hole through the workpiece, and the workpiece is displaced whereby each impulse produces a fresh cut. The displacement of the workpiece is synchronized with the laser impulses, and of a trajectory (F1,F2) which produces a required hole configuration. The cut may be initiated in a zone of the workpiece which will be removed by the cut. In the case of a circular hole the cut may start at the hole centre (o), move (F1) to the circumference (5) and then follow the circular path (F2).
