Abstract

Compsns. having physiological cooling activity on skin and mucous membranes contains, as active ingredient, 0.1-5-wt. % menthod esters, (I), of natural 2-6C hydroxycarboxylic acids opt. OH-esterified with 1-4C carboxylic acids. Uses incude food supplements, chewing gum, tobacco, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, e.g., toothpastes and mouthwashes, perfume, powder, lotions, after-shave lotions and creams. Menthyl lactate also enhances taste of other flavouring substances, e.g., peppermint oil. (I) are odourless, tasteless and have a long-lasting cooling effect. Pref. (I) is menthyl lactate.
