Abstract
A manometer is used to measure the height of liquids of different densities contained in storage tanks. Density corrections are applied by varying the useful area of manometric liquid to maintain constant volume of displaced liquid. A manometer comprises a reservoir (2) which communicates (4) with a calibrated measuring tube. Pressure (P) from liquid being measured is applied to a connection on the reservoir. Density correction is applied by a piston on (7) in the reservoir which forms two chambers (9, 8) interconnected by a hole (10) in the piston. A micrometer screw (13) enables piston to be moved to adjust surface area enabling pressure to displace a volume of manometric liquid independent of density.
