Abstract

A wood burning fireplace is used to obtain supplementary heat which can be used for adjacent rooms. A heat recuperation chamber is formed by a box like structure which forms the sides (2) and back of the hearth, the upper part of the back (3) slopping forwards towards the room in which the fireplace is installed. Cold air inlets (9) are positioned at the rear, at floor level and is heated as it travels upwards inside the chamber, to be discharged through openings (10) each side of, and above, the hearth (1). Baffle plates are incorporated inside the chamber behind the hearth to improve the efficiency. A hood portion (8) is mounted on top, and a damper is housed at the bottom, with a stop to prevent it from being fully closed.
