Abstract

The dew ball (11) may be used for local irrigation in a region with a continental temperature range and high air humidity. Several balls (11) may be arranged on a grill so as to drop dew water into a hole contg. sapling roots. The ball uses endothermal phenomena associated with a volatile binary solution within a sealed container and subject to external temperature fluctuations. It may contain quantities of water-ammonia solution, liquid ammonia (19) and ammonia gas. The solution is absorbed in a porous block (16) within the gas zone. As air temperatures rise ammonia gas separates from the solution, raises internal pressure and causes further gas to condense and increase the liquid fraction (19). The reverse process occurs as air temperatures drop causing the temperature of the liquid ammonia to drop rapidly.
