Abstract
Aq. emulsion based on polymeric olefines having a compsn of (a) 5-60 wt. % of an extensively amorphous poly-alpha-olefine (or a mixt.) with I-values of 5-400 cm3/g and ether soluble proportions >60%. Up to 75 wt. % may be replaced by an elastomer, (b) 5-50 wt. % of an hydrocarbon oil, (opt. contg., a drying oil), which can be polybutene oil or a distillation residue from cyclododecatriene prepn., or both, (c) 0-12 wt. % of a chlor paraffin (Cl = 45-60%) and/or an aromatic Br Cpd., (d) 0-30 wt. % of a normal additive, (e) 2-15 wt. % of a surface active material, (f) 28-78 wt. % H2O. The mixt. of polyolefins with emulsions are used to produce sealings and coatings e.g. roof sealings, seals agains water, carpet back coatings, which have plastic-elastic propertis. The emulsions contain no solvent and vapours arising are unburnable and non-poisonous, Esp. the cationic types adhere well to wet surfaces without impairment of the sealing properties. The emulsions have good weather resistance. In an example, a homogeneous emulsion was prepd. from 8 pts. stearic acid aminoamide in 32 pts. H2O at pH 3-5, 30 pts. wt. polybutene oil (molecular wt. = 820) and 30 pts. wt. extensively amorphous polybutene-1 (I-value = 50 cm3/g, ether soluble part = 92%). The emulsion had excellent adhesion to wet substrates and good sealing properties.
