Abstract

A magnetic disc drive using a single motor enables two discs to be driven so that one may be changed while the other is operational. The drive motor (20) is coupled with a belt drive (18) to a pulley mounted on a spindle with two disc spigots at either end. Drive motion is only transmitted to the discs when cone shaped idler wheels are pressed into the spigots. The idler wheels are supported on spindles fixed to pivotted levers (44), with link latches (36) at the free ends. The discs are accessible through apertures in the front plate. Hinged transparent covers may be swung clear to permit one disc to be changed while the other is still being used.
